I expect the number-in-circle SVG you tried just looked like a filled circle. Thank you for looking at this for me, and directing me to the article! I could even use conditional formatting to change the color.
I'm glad you got it working. It might be nice if you posted the result SVG that works for this graphic, so we may compare. The next step was discovering why…. It was always black, and working with the button-icon color formatting tool would not change it.
In other words, instead of a wide line, use a rectangle with corners to define what the broad line would look like. FileMaker properly changes the fill based on formatting. Here is how my icon was drawn originally, with simple strokes to make the image. The red circles show the location of node points. By redrawing it with thin lines to make areas that look like thick lines, it looks something like this:.
Since the visible part is all FILL, FileMaker can format it to some styley color, and not just be stuck with the black strokes. In fact, that incompatibility may be important to allow FileMaker to take over the fill color. But the above is as outputted by the graphics drawing software.
